Apocalypse! You have survived the third world war and now live in a community just outside of Toledo. Your fearless leader has uncovered that you (and strangely your entire project team) have successfully completed college with a physics degree and has asked your team to design and construct a wind mill to power various equipment in the village center’s building. She has asked you to present a very detailed proposal in front of the village elders by next Thursday typed on one of the last computers – and later warns of putting you outside the city gates if you are not successful. Trust me; you don’t want to run into a wild Ohioan. There is equipment and resources everywhere, but nothing quite functions correctly so you will need to design and rebuild most of it. Hand drawn blue prints and detailed calculations are strongly STRONGLY encouraged.
- How will the wind mill generate electricity?
- How will the wind mill energy be “transformed” into usable energy? (Think about our outlets?)
- What materials are needed to complete this task?
- Discuss detailed calculations of the reliability of the wind mill?
- Will this device have the ability to power equipment that miraculously survived when the bombs began to fall: 20 light bulbs, an MRI machine, 10 computers for village operation, an electric jeep, and to electrify the outer fence for protection?
NOTE: You are upper class physics students. I expect very details plans using many of the things you have learned in class and other upper level classes.
EACH TEAM MEMBER MUST INCLUDE A PAGE REPORT ABOUT WHAT THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE PROJECT HAS BEEN. EVERYONE ON THE TEAM MUST AGREE WITH EVERYONE’S ESSAY!!!!
