Danielle Sofferman’s article was published in the APS Newsletter this summer: https://www.aps.org/publications/apsnews/202007/upload/July-August-2020.pdf Dr. Sofferman reflects on “Defending My PhD Thesis in the Time of the Coronavirus.” That’s a double congratulations for Danielle, an article and a PhD!

For those of you who aren’t physicists, this is kind of a big deal; the APS newsletter is read by almost all physicists in the world. I get it in the mail!

During my first year at Adelphi, I was blessed to have Danielle Sofferman in my quantum physics class. She was a wonderful student and exactly the type of person I was hoping to interact with in my new career as a physics professor. I distinctly remember how eager of a student she was, how I looked up to her and her mentor Professor Sean Bentley as a successful undergraduate research team, and being proud of her when she was accepted to the University of Michigan for graduate school. And how happy I was when she told me she was using her quantum notes from my class to breeze through her graduate quantum mechanics class a year later.

Danielle has been such a great ally to Adelphi physics over the years. She is always eager to meet with current students about what she does and what attending graduate school is all about. Here are some pictures of her with Adelphi students at APS March Meetings:

I am so proud of Danielle for all of her accomplishments. Woo Hoo!
