Okay folks, here is my analogy for the day. (Actually this idea came to me yesterday.) Office hours is like going to the dentist.

  • Its terrifying!
  • It hurts!
  • You know you got to do it!
  • You know you didn’t floss (studied) as much as you should have in the past (in high school, last semester, or this semester) and you are going to pay for it!
  • The dentist always makes me feel guilty! (I try hard to not make this happen in office hours, but I imagine it does happen.)
  • In reality if you go to the dentist often, its never that bad and can actually be a good experience. Its never as bad as you imagined. Same for office hours.
  • Its better to have a little pain at the dentist (office hours) than a lot of pain later on (on the exam).

And I will leave you with a classic comedy sketch about going to the dentist. And come to office hours, please. Your teeth with thank you.
