It was wonderful to have Professor Tom Brown from the University of Rochester to virtually visit Adelphi University today and give us a crash course of some of the wonderful optics-based research projects that are occurring at the University of Rochester. Here are just a few of the slides for which I randomly grabbed screen shots.

As someone who spends all of his time head down thinking about one specific application of optics, it was absolutely wonderful to get this wonderful 50,000 foot view. Another wonderful thing about Professor Brown’s talk that I appreciated was that it was really geared for undergraduate students – lots of great pictures, great overview, and a discussion about how all of it relates to careers. I also enjoyed chatting with students during the talk (in the dm) about how interesting all of this stuff was and about how they are considering it for graduate school.

Rochester – Adelphi 4+1 Optics Partnership

The University of Rochester and Adelphi University are finalizing a new formal connection for physics undergraduates from Adelphi to move on Graduate school (and great careers) at Rochester. Formally, its still just a pile of papers that need to be finished and signed by 100s of people. However I will tell you (informally) it is an option for Adelphi physics students to get a master’s degree at Rochester in optics.

If you have any interest, please let me know.

Tara Pena* is Awesome!

A former member of this research team is currently doing her PhD at Rochester working on one of the projects, Tara Pena (’17 I think).
