Astronomy night was cool! I enjoyed it. The students had a great time. Rosie had an amazing time! It was nice to have a nice in-person event during these crazy COVID times. But I am not going to talk about any of this.
The thing that I really want to write about is how awesome our physics team is. This is especially true of Physics Club President Katie Gifford (Class of 2022) and James St. John (Physics Lab Coordinator and Adjunct Professor).
- The event was seamless
- Campus security was there checking that we were all approved to be there and that everyone was properly socially distant – Something that would have driven me nuts. But Katie and James just made friends and worked with them.
- Katie brought Astronaut ice cream (which of course was sealed nicely to keep out all the germs).
- Both Katie and James led when they needed to lead and just stayed chill and friendly when they didn’t need to.
- James is really figuring out the telescope. I listened to James and took instructions from him. It was hard but I resisted manually aligning the telescope. (Sorry I am old school.)
- I brought Rosie with me because Colleen had to work late. Firstly everyone is always so great to her – that always makes me smile. Secondly, when I had to leave early to get Rosie home at a reasonable time, it means so much to me to be able to say, “I’m heading out, wrap it up when you are done.” AND THEN UST LEAVE KNOWING EVERYTHING WILL BE PERFECT!
