Last semester, the Adelphi community was sadden to learn that we lost one of our long term Panthers, Professor Martin Garrell – affectionally called Marty among his peers.

Last night members of the greater Adelphi community, faculty, students, staff, and alumni, met at Alumni House to formally dedicate the Adelphi University Observatory to Dr Garrell and to celebrate his over 50 years of contributing to Adelphi and its surrounding communities.

The event was really amazing – it was nice to see how much of the community came out to support Dr. Garrell! Thank you to everyone who came out. Dean Wang and Provost Storm spoke fondly of Marty. Thank you both for participating. I would also like to thank Anne Cowan, Jill Cartwright, and AVP and Deputy to the Provost Cara Terzulli for all their help in putting together last night’s event.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get many pictures from the night. I am still not 100% (a little sick) and didn’t have the mental space. Amanta Promi (’24) did take a few pictures after the dedication. Here are those photos:

And we used the newly dedicated Garrell Observatory right away.

  1. […] It was nice to have this event on the same day as the observatory’s dedication. […]
