For the past few years, we have been partnering with the West Hempstead, NY school district to bring fun science for students over the summer. We have been working with all stars over there like Chienne White and Lisa Minicozzi as part of their 21st century grant.
This summer, I have been working with rising Adelphi senior Alyssa Zambuto who has been working on the NASA wheel project with the high school students and today building bridges with the 4th and 5th graders.
Alyssa has been in a leadership role in our Lab for Kids activities and the Physics Club at Adelphi. It showed when I hung out with her in class! She was amazing! She was doing all the little things that I want to do when I teach, the stuff the textbooks tell you to do, but you never seem to have the time to get them. She was making it happen. She is going to be an amazing teacher, once she is done with school.
One of the groups bridges was so strong we ran out of books to stack on it.
I can’t wait to visit Alyssa and my other student Jason next week with the high school and middle school students!
