I want to send a special thank you to the physics department and ceramic engineering department at Alfred University.  I had an amazing visit yesterday and was happy to give my Be a Shark talk.  There was a bunch of stuff that I learned:

Alfred has a really compelling ceramic engineering department (let’s call it material science).  They have a lot of resources for current undergraduate students (not just at Alfred) especially for summer programs, they have a nice PhD program that ties into jobs in NYS, and they have a real can-do hands-on attitude when it comes to working with their students.  We need to partner with them for opportunities for our Adelphi students.

The airtrack was invented at Alfred!

Alfred has a very beautiful observatory which has some wonderful undergraduate research projects and ties to the community.  It really was beautiful.

There is a special interdisciplinary connection between art and ceramics and science and glass and engineering that was really unique. 

I learned about the school.  Talked with the Alfred Physics club and gave them so advice, and then gave my talk.  It was a wonderful day and I really enjoyed getting to know the faculty and students!
