We keep trying to get back to normal, but the world has different ideas. Last night’s Astronomy night started off that way. But in the end, it was perfect.
This is one of many places where James St. John excels. Thank you James for putting on a good show for everyone. James led the evening for all the attendees.
I brought my daughter and her best friend last night for Astronomy night. (Breaking the rules!) As we were driving home, Rosie’s best friend says, “Is James a student or professor?” I then explained what the lab coordinator was. I said James is going to get a PhD soon so he could a professor or something similar. He wants to solve climate change. She said the cutest thing ever. “He should do space. He is really amazing at space!”
This semester has been one of almost and maybe. When I looked outside last night, the clouds were numerous. James called me with a whether report and said it was going to rain. Still I wanted to try to get this event in, I already cancelled too many things. So we held the event. At 6pm, we got in some viewing, but the clouds eventually came rolling in and the rain started. We closed up shop and came inside.
Amanta Promi and Shalauni Patel (co-presidents of physics club) had arranged to have dinner for 6:30. So it was perfect timing. We sat around and ate sandwiches and hung out while the rain happened. At 7:30 it was beautifully clear again. And we were back up observing once again.
Last night we focused on the solar system, getting good looks at Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Moon. There are so many more wonderful pictures than one’s I took. I may add them later. But right now these are the few that were in my phone.
