In modern physics I making the students do a teaching project on something that is interesting to them. For example, if you are a student doing a summer project on a research topic, then you would have to teach a lesson about it related to modern physics. The project has had mixed reviews from the students.
I have one group of students who are planning physics education careers. So I gave them Peer Instruction by Eric Mazur and told them to explore physics education. In a funny end to their presentation they said “Basically, just copy Professor Wright and you’re chillin”

I wish. I really need to do a better job of making my class more active. It still feels like I am talking way too much in my classes and not letting the students engage with the material as much as I should.
I recently got to observe a faculty member who is formally trained in physics education techniques. Or all the cool stuff they got going on in Chemistry. I still have a long way to go.
Still I appreciate the sentiment from my students. THANK YOU!
