Today is the Adelphi Giving day. I encourage everybody to go there and donate to your favorite program. I just did – and it is easy to donate small amounts to each program. And I hope that Cosmic Pathways is your favorite program and you donate to us too.

Our crowdsourcing effort isn’t directly tied to Adelphi’s giving day (and it is a little bit). We are using Adelphi’s infrastructure to manage the finances for our national campaign of getting more physical scientists through fun, engaging conferences, i.e., Cosmic Pathways. That being said, it is an excellent opportunity to talk about why giving to our team can help us have an even bigger impact than we already have
Our long-term goal is to have Cosmic Pathways conferences around the country. We want to talk to high school students everywhere and have frank conversations with them about career choices. This isn’t an attempt to convince anybody of anything. It’s just an opportunity to get the information out to them, and to encourage people to pursue the things that they’re passionate about and good at. We seek to encourage.
It is difficult to recruit students into physics, despite having one of the best professional outcomes on one’s career.
Among the students who choose physics it’s hard to keep them going. Retention rates are low.
We need interventions that get the facts out, encourage people and keep it all positive. Yes, if you choose physics as a career, you are gonna work in college. It is not easy! But if you do the work, the future is bright. Our team’s mission is to get that information out to everybody and have some fun doing it.
