So almost everyone I meet these days asks me this question. Why do I live so far away from work? My commute is epic! 1 hour and 45 minutes in the morning and 2+ hours coming home. Especially then they decide to shut the entire highway down for construction in Connecticut – which happens more than you would think.
There are just a handful of reasons. It really is simple.
- I love my job and the greater Adelphi community – both the one the already existed and the one our team has built. My official position has always been I am always looking for the next big opportunity – it just has to be better than what I have. The problem is that my role with Adelphi is so amazing and it matters so much to me that there are very few jobs on this world (or any other) that I would rather do.
- By living in Connecticut, I get to live with my amazing family and be apart of their daily lives. This weekend, my two amazing nieces starred in their high school play, Cinderella. And the Bean was in the pit, playing in the orchestra. It was a family affair! Our greater family took up a whole row of seats at the Palace in Waterbury – which is saying something. After being an academic nomad for most of my adult life, it was nice to be part of something like that. (Seriously, both Cocchiola girls are amazing actors. So proud of them. )
- I love my garden in my beautiful backyard!
