Our Grant is going super well! This Blog Post is an update.

STEM Party

On September 30 – through October 1, Adelphi hosted the Thorlabs Brookhaven Adelphi STEM Party. This event included:

  • 200 High School Students and their teachers participated in a STEM party.
    • Partner High School Teachers and Students (Manhasset, Mineola, and Westbury) attended the party.
    • Additional schools particpated.
  • Students participated in demos and lab tours spanning biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and photonics.
  • Physical science career options were discussed during the initial talk, including:
    • Thorlabs discussed career opportunities in their field and at their company,
    • Get The Facts out information was used to discuss the rewards of careers in STEM education.
    • Teachers at our partner high schools were called out and recognized through out the day.
    • Career slides from APS’s CM Fellows program were used to discuss possible career pathways.
  • College students participated in workshops with Brookhaven National Labs and Thorlabs.

Cosmic Pathways II Planning is Underway

The date has been set for Cosmic Pathways II. November 7, 2026 at Adelphi University. The Executive Team has been formed, is meeting regularly, and has already taken steps to organize the event.

Marketing will begin shortly.

Fall Lab For Kids Events

We have scheduled fall Lab for Kids events with Westbury High School. In a couple of weeks or pre-service teachers will be heading to Westbury to lead the pumpkin drop (measure g) and in December we will head back for Collisions.

Two of our pre-service teachers have jobs (at different levels) providing education services at West Hempstead High School.

Ramping Up for Spring Lab Kids Events

The class for pre-service teachers is posted. I have begun to market it with STEM students on campus.

We will begin reaching out to high schools and scheduling events shortly.
